My Commitments To You
This year has been full of loss, change and hope. Working in Mental Health my goal is to help you heal, grow and live a life that is meaningful to you. I understand that social issues and systems of oppression greatly impact the mind, body, and spirit. Intergenerational trauma also affects the way we live. I want to offer a statement of solidarity and share my commitment to you and the work I do.
· I am committed to work consistently towards equality:
From the time I became familiar with the idea of injustice, I began working to support people. From the playground to the therapy room, the way I do the work has certainly changed, but my heart remains beating with the same intensity. It beats with a desire to create a safe world for all it’s inhabitants. For me, this means staying awake to injustice, remaining aware of the damage this causes and taking action against oppression. It means standing with you, your stories, and your history when we work together.
· I am committed to being empathetic and respectful.
This means, listening with my heart to hear, not only your words, but also the stories your pain tells, and the strong beat of your soul. It means acknowledging your inner wisdom as the truth and creating a space of no judgement.
· I am committed to using my imagination, being lighthearted.
Therapy does not have to feel heavy. I am always about having those hard conversations. However I am also about creativity, rejoicing life and finding new ways to heal. When we play, laugh, and recreate we can find new, beneficial ways to heal.
· I am committed to honesty, to celebration and memorialization.
In order to heal, we need the truth. I will always seek this out with you. I will celebrate with you and find ways to memorialize the changes in your life. This means honoring your past and remembering what is important to remember.
· I am committed to curiosity and growth.
I will explore your world with you, look for ways to grow and opportunity for rewriting those stuck places.
· I am committed to being open to critique and change when I am not serving you in the best way I can.
I believe this work is a process and humans are bound to make mistakes. I am not exempt from this. I want to keep adjusting, keep learning and recreating.
We live in a diverse and changing world. I welcome people of all racial and ethnic and religious backgrounds, those who may be living with a disability, those who face financial struggles or struggles with meeting basic human needs, those who belong to the LGBTQIA+ community. In short, anyone from any background who is feeling marginalized, I support and strive to serve.
